“The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have me.” Matthew 26:11 (NIV)

Some may interpret this Scripture to mean that poverty, whether you are born into or in bondage by it as a result of poor financial management and choices, is inevitably existent in our world and there is nothing we can do about it. That poor people will always be poor, and nothing can ever be done about poverty. However, we think of poverty in cyclical terms based on one’s socio-economical maturity and development as a young adult or young family just starting off in life, learning how to manage their own money and build their own wealth over time. In other words, if we are willing to adhere to God’s principles for us as givers not just receivers, lenders not borrowers, above only and not beneath, good stewards and not wasteful spenders, anyone can move from a place of lack over time to prospering, thriving, and flourishing.
