MEMBERShip Starter Kit

1. CHOOSING ZION CITY

So you've decided to join! Well, maybe you chose Zion City because we're a friendly ministry. Perhaps you felt loved and accepted.

I know! It was the logo! That's it. The logo – right?

No? Maybe?

Um… come to think of it, there are a number of other reasons why you may have decided to submit your membership form.

I mean we really do value the Word of God and our teaching, and sometimes preaching pastors are always passionate about studying God's Word in hope of delivering a dynamic revelatory message to members and visitors – week in and week out.

Not to mention the music. If you haven't noticed yet, we LOVE music around here. Pastor Coliér is a recording artist and the McNair family has a rich legacy of musicianship, singing, composing, producing and recording CDs, and ministering across the country and world.

Whatever the reason, we'd love to hear from you. In fact, the only way we feel we can truly serve you better is if you tell us about the things you think we do well and if you're honest about the things you feel we could stand to improve.

So help us out a little… it won't take long. We promise!

2. GETTING CONNECTED

Now you're going to hear this a lot, but the best way to GET CONNECTED at Zion City is by joining one of our FRUITS Life (Home Study "Sticky" Groups). If you've already participated in Meet the McNair's you've already received the Right Hand of Fellowship. That Right Hand is further extended to you from members when you join a sticky group.

Having lived down south in Tuskegee, Alabama, Pastor Coliér could share a thing or two about the advantageous of southern hospitality when it comes to building strong relationships. It's not uncommon for people to come together over a southern home cooked meal and some good 'ole down to earth fellowship.

Zion City hopes to bring a little bit of that warm family friendly fellowship to your homes in a state where the winters can be long and cold.

Though it's not a requirement per se, we strongly encourage you to find a group with people you share things in common with or CONTACT US today to discuss ways we may be able help you form your own.

(Please note: special training is required to host or facilitate life groups.)

    3. MEETING EXPECTATIONS

The leadership of Zion City is dispersed and shared amongst our team of dedicated Executives, Elders, Pastors, Ministry, Vision Member, and Service Leaders. This particular approach to ministry isn't unique to spiritual leadership and how many effective churches are administered and operated, but it may require some getting use to if you're use to the traditional Senior Pastor who answers all the phone calls and makes all the house calls.

One of the primary focuses of Zion City is grounded in the origins of Pastor Coliér's original vision to "Build People who Build the Kingdom." In other words, our goal is to see the body of Christ grow and become strengthen in a way that encourages active and deeper spiritual engagement amongst members, proper administration and operation of spiritual gifts in service to the Lord and each other, all to create greater accountability within and without the church and body of Christ, and advance our community membership base.

    4. EMBRACING THE VISION

On the front page of the Zion City website you'll find these words:

"In the midst of increasing changes in today's culture and the world, we desire to become a community increasingly relevant to God's people without compromising the sacred Word of God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Therewith, our hope is grounded in our vision:

    • To walk, worship, work, witness, and win our community for Christ and proclaim the Kingdom of God."

Everything Zion City does is designed to "INSPIRE PEOPLE WITH INSPIRATIONAL MINISTRY." That's our mission motto. You can read the full mission statement here.

At Zion City, we understand that YHWH is God. Not the people who serve Him. Our job is love Him with all of our hearts and love our neighbors as ourselves (Matthew 22:36-40).

Holding this commandment close to our hearts allows us to minister in a way that is more inclusive than exclusive; believing that "at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is LORD" (Philippians 2:10, 11; Romans 14:11-13; Isaiah 45:22, 23).

The scriptures further admonish us in 1 John 4:3 saying, "And every spirit that confesses not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world."

That gives us a reason now more than ever to stand on the Word of God. At the same time, we must be intentional about creating a safe place and environment for people from all walks of life to experience the love of God through His people (Jeremiah 31:3; John 13:35).

      5. IMPACTING OUR COMMUNITY

Embracing the vision ultimately leads to impacting our community. When we impact our community we are essentially impacting the Kingdom of God. In order to do any of this, we must GIVE of our resources.

Resources include a number of things from money, experience and/or expertise, exposure, and our time. We call it MEET.

      MONEY

Matthew 6:24 KJV admonishes, "No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon."

You've heard the saying before, "the devil made me do it." Well, that may be truth in some cases, but when it comes to money the devil has to take a backseat. A more fitting phrase would be "the money made me do it."

The text above makes it clear that the only other master we should be concerned about is money.

When we give freely and cheerfully to God, we send a clear message to God, the devil, and the world just who our real master is!

To assist you in your worship, service, and financial commitment to God, Zion City offers Points of Giving (POG). POG offers several ways to GIVE at Zion City making GIVING practically hassle free.

      EXPERIENCE AND EXPERTISE

Participating in visible auxiliary ministries: Guest Relations, Music & Arts, and Teachers & Pastors aren't the only ways you can share your experience and expertise in ministry. Truth be told, it's the people working behind the scenes that make it possible for the people working in front of the scenes to do what they do well anyway.

If you have a knack for getting things done in areas of administration, operations, management, finance, marketing, and business investments, etc., then Zion City is a great place to put those smarts, skills, and talents to work for the LORD.

For more information, please see ways to help MEET the need.

      EXPOSURE

Matthew 5:13 NKJV reminds us, "You are the salt of the earth: but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on  lamp stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your shine so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven."

And that's really what it's all about right? Giving glory to God.

An old song asks the question, "what the world needs now is love sweet love." Well, who better to show that love than a child of God about the love of God? If peace, justice, mercy, love, and other virtues are what we all desire to have and share in our own lives then it is imperative that the people of God and the church of God is reflected to as many people and nations as far and bright as our light will shine.

        TIME

Our time is one of the most precious resources we'll ever have in life. How we spend it, the way we spend it, and who we spend it with speaks volumes about our priorities in this world.
